Artur Malewski (PL) - WHY THIS ROE DEER IS SO FAT AND THIS ELEPHANT SO THIN
The examination of the ties between animals and people is an important motif in the works of Artur Malewski. He searches for the animal attributes in humans and the human ones in animals. His newest work is a sculpture of a roe deer living in a cage, fed by people and, finally, seriously overweight. The cage was driven around the city of Lodz. In this "mobile monument" the artist aims to draw the notice of the public to the ambivalent human - animal bond and all the tensions and contradictions contained therein. Malewski works in sculpture, film and performance. Inspired by popular culture, he uses horror and elements of New Age ideologies. His works are tinged with black humour.
